Arsenal have suddenly been linked with a move to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

The World Cup winner played a lot of games under Pep Guardiola in the 2023/24 season – 54 to be exact. He had a very good campaign, but now, it looks like his future lies away from the club.

Reports revealed on Saturday that Arsenal could make a move to sign Alvarez if Manchester City made him available for a transfer in the coming weeks.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed what the talented Argentina international has directly told the Premier League champions about his future.

Arsenal-linked Julian Alvarez’s message to Manchester City

Julian Alvarez’s future has been up in the air since June.

TBR Football exclusively revealed at the time that Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are amongst the sides who have been spoken to by Alvarez’s camp.

Arsenal have now been credited with an interest in the Manchester City attacker, who scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions in the 2023/24 season.

The Gunners have already signed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Guardiola’s side, and we’re sure Arteta would love to weaken his old employers even more ahead of the start of another title race.

Romano has now shared an update on Alvarez’s future, and the journalist has revealed that the player has made it clear to Manchester City that he wants to explore the opportunities on the market.

Furthermore, the journalist has revealed that City are now open to listening to offers for Alvarez after finding out that he is no longer happy at the club,

Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “I see someone asking about Julian Alvarez guys and I think this is one of the topics that we have to touch on tonight – the future of Julian Alvarez – because first of all, let me say that as of tonight, Saturday, nothing has been completed, agreed or done for Julian Alvarez.

“I already open my social media accounts and I see many pictures of Julian Alvarez already, wearing the shirts of other clubs.

“What’s important to say is that if you’re following me, you know that since June, the situation between Julian Alvarez and Manchester City has been quite difficult because Julian Alvarez wants to play more – and it’s not about the number of games, it’s about the big games. Julian Alvarez wants to feel important in big games.

“This is what he already communicated via his agent to Manchester City before the beginning of the Copa America, of the Olympics. So Julian Alvarez has been clear on this desire but then what’s important to mention is that also, in recent days, the message from Julian Alvarez to the club has been quite clear: he wants to explore opportunities on the market because he wants to play more in big games.

“This is the message of Julian Alvarez. Manchester City, during the month of June, have always been repeating to the agents of the player: ‘we want to keep Julian Alvarez’.

“So, Man City were not giving a price tag for Julian Alvarez, were not giving the chance to the clubs interested – Paris Saint-Germain and all the others to open concrete negotiations for Julian Alvarez because they were not giving a price.

“Now, the situation is changing because Manchester City are open to discussing for Julian Alvarez’s exit. This is I think the big news of this week.”

How much Arsenal have to pay to sign Alvarez

Manchester City signed Julian Alvarez for just £14.1 million in January 2022 (BBC).

The Argentine has proved to be an absolute bargain for the champions, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists in just 62 starts under Guardiola.

Alvarez still has four years left on his contract at Manchester City. That puts them in a really strong position in potential transfer negotiations.

That’s also probably why City are demanding an absolute fortune for the Argentina international.

The Mirror, who revealed Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez, have claimed that Manchester City are demanding an eye-watering £80 million including add-ons to sell the 24-year-old.

If Arsenal agree to meet those demands, Alvarez will become their second-most expensive signing of all time after Declan Rice.
