Fabrizio Romano shares update on Ivan Fresneda to Arsenal links

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda, and Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on the situation.

Mikel Arteta’s side are flying in the Premier League at the moment. They have been the best team in the country this season and completely deserve to be on top of the table – eight points clear of Manchester City.

To go all the way, however, they need to strengthen their side, and Fresneda’s name has been making the rounds over the last few days.

Arsenal definitely need reinforcements in a few areas of the pitch, but right-back is not one of them.

Mikel Arteta has Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares available at his disposal at the moment, who are all capable of stepping up when required.

Cedric, however, is reportedly close to a move to Fulham. That opens the door for another right-back to come into the side, and reports have claimed that Fresneda is a target for the Gunners.

Romano has backed reports that Arsenal are interested in the 18-year-old Real Valladolid defender, but he claims that it will take a few more days before a decision is made on his next club.

The journalist wrote on CaughtOffside: “Arsenal, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle have been monitoring Fresneda but at the moment there’s still no official bid on Valladolid’s table,” Romano said.

“These are the clubs in the race, the feeling is that it will take some days to understand who’s going to sign this super talented 2004-born right back.”

Fresneda checks all the boxes Arsenal usually look for.

The 18-year-old, branded as a ‘fantastic’ player, is one of the most talented right-backs of his age in Spain. He has been excellent for Vallodolid, and it’s only a matter of time before he moves to a bigger club.

Arsenal face tough competition from Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United for Fresneda’s signature. The youngster is more likely to get regular game time elsewhere, but can he really turn down a move to the Premier League leaders?

Romano says the Gunners will have to wait for a few days before they can find out the answer to that question.
