Arsenal transfer news: 'Fantastic’ player may be loaned out straight away if Gunners sign him
Arsenal may have to loan out Ivan Fresneda straight away if they sign him, with The Evening Standard reporting that Real Valladolid are likely to want him back for the rest of the season in the event of a sale.
Mikel Arteta will be keen to bolster his squad this month as he aims to keep Arsenal in the hunt for the Premier League title.
The Spaniard has moved Ben White out to right-back this season after William Saliba returned from a loan spell at Marseille and made an instant impact.
Arteta has used Takehiro Tomiyasu in the position this season, while Cedric Soares seems to be edging towards a move to Fulham. But Arsenal are seemingly looking at a different type of option for the right-back role, with White and Tomiyasu being more defensively-minded players.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Fresneda over the past few weeks, with Tuttojuve claiming the north Londoners are leading the race for the 18-year-old.
And if Edu Gaspar does indeed move to sign the youngster this month, he could end up loaning him straight back to the La Liga outfit for the remainder of the season.
Arsenal may have to send Fresneda out on loan
The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal hold an interest in the Valladolid defender and have even spoken to the teenager’s agents about a switch to north London.
Fresneda would be seen as a long-term signing for Arteta and the La Liga side are likely to want him back on loan for the rest of the season should they agree to a sale.
The Spanish full-back has been identified as a target for Arsenal while they remain in talks with Fulham over the possible departure of Cedric, the outlet notes.
Fresneda is enjoying a breakthrough season in Spain’s top-flight and has been described as a ‘fantastic’ prospect.
He’s also attracting interest from Newcastle but it seems that Arsenal have the upper hand at the moment.
While Cedric hasn’t been a starter for the Gunners this season, it feels like a smart move from Edu to replace him with a bright prospect like Fresneda.
It would be even better for Arsenal if he was to see out the rest of the season with Valladolid too, as he’s unlikely to get minutes under Arteta while his side push for the title.
