Fabrizio Romano shares the real reason why Tottenham haven't made a bid for Raphinha yet
Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on Raphinha amid rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur and their North London rivals, Arsenal.
The Leeds United star is arguably the most wanted man in the Premier League this summer. He has been linked with plenty of clubs already, and he’s expected by many to leave Elland Road before the window shuts.
Leeds aren’t going to stand in Raphinha’s way, but they have slapped a massive asking price on the Brazilian winger. Romano recently claimed that the Whites want £65 million – a fee that’s well beyond Barcelona’s reach at this moment in time.
That leaves Arsenal and Tottenham in the race, and the Gunners have tabled a bid already. Spurs, on the other hand, haven’t made an official proposal yet, and Romano has explained the real reason why.
Fabrizio Romano explains why Tottenham haven’t bid for Raphinha yet
Speaking about the Leeds star on his YouTube channel yesterday, Romano said: “Tottenham – they are really interested in Raphinha. They are discussing with Leeds of a potential verbal proposal.
“I understand that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the player. But, at the same point, they know that it is a really complicated deal with many clubs in it.
“Tottenham and Arsenal both clubs don’t want to pay crazy money, they want to pay the right money and they don’t want to enter a bidding war. This is why all the talks are verbal on Tottenham’s side.
“Arsenal made an opening proposal, a written proposal, but still not agreed with Leeds.”
If Tottenham do table an official bid for Raphinha, it could well turn into a bidding war between them and Arsenal. So, it’s understandable why they haven’t made the move yet, but Spurs will have to act soon.
Arsenal have already had a bid rejected for Raphinha, and reports have claimed they’ll soon go back in with a better offer. It really does look like the Gunners are serious about signing him, which complicates things for Spurs.
If Tottenham really want to sign Raphinha ahead of Arsenal, they will have to go in with a serious offer very soon. If they don’t, there’s a good chance they’ll miss out, which would be a shame.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Raphinha in the coming days. As things stand, his likeliest destination seems to be North London, but whether it will be to Arsenal or Spurs is anyone’s guess.
