Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest update on Nico Williams.

Arsenal narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last season so the onus will be on Mikel Arteta to go one better and finally win the league for the first time since 2004.

To do that, The Gunners will need a couple of top-level additions and Riccardo Calafiori is set to become their first in the coming days.

Arteta is hopeful Williams will be the next as Romano shares the latest on his situation.

Nico Williams to make his final decision

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano took to X overnight and noted that Barcelona are waiting on Nico Williams’ final decision as Premier League clubs circle – thought to be Arsenal.

At this stage, it’s understood that the Euro 2024 star prefers to remain in Spain, thus placing Barcelona in the driving seat to land his signature.

Arteta has made Williams his number-one target in attack, so he’ll still be optimistic that an agreement can be found.

Although, they’ll have to fend off interest from Paris Saint-Germain, too.

Nico Williams alternative

TBR reported on Saturday that Arsenal are looking at Juventus wide player Federico Chiesa as an alternative to Williams.

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be keen on the 26-year-old, who is out of contract next summer.

Chiesa is expected to cost in the region of £25m for any forthcoming suitors, so he’d be a much cheaper option, freeing up funds for other areas.

A midfielder is thought to be a priority position with Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino top of their wishlist.

In other news, after Riccardo Calafiori, there’s now a real belief Arsenal are about to sign ‘world class’ player.
