Liverpool are trying to do a deal for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi and it very much seems they are pushing with the player to get things done.

The Reds have emerged from nowhere in the last few days to come in as strong contenders to sign Zubimendi.

Real Sociedad have been braced for bids all summer for their top talent in midfield and after Arsenal moved onto Mikel Merino, it now looks Liverpool are coming for Zubimendi.

At the moment, Liverpool are thought to be trying to convince the player and are willing to pay the release-clause to land him.

And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the situation.

Liverpool pushing to sign Martin Zubimendi

Taking to X to provide the latest, Romano has said that Sociedad very much want to keep Zubimendi but right now, Liverpool are still there.

Zubimendi is thought to be open to the idea of signing for Liverpool, who are keen to add a new number six to their midfield.

Liverpool have to get this one done

A quiet summer has been the theme on Merseyside this summer with Liverpool but there’s no doubt signing Martin Zubimendi is a boost.

The midfielder is one of Europe’s most in-demand players and for the Reds to come from the shadows and land him is a big statement.

Of course, Zubimendi has a decision to make here as well and Liverpool is a big move for him.

However, the chance might not come again and if he looks at how well former Spanish number six Xabi Alonso did at Anfield, then that should give encouragement.

So, while nothing is done just yet, Liverpool are very much still a big draw and Zubimendi could regret not going with it.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be getting a midfielder in the ranks who could be there for a decade and beyond.
