Tottenham might be keen on signing Jesse Lingard, according to different reports this week, but Fabrizio Romano has suggested nothing is close just yet.

Lingard has emerged as a somewhat surprise target for Spurs boss Antonio Conte. The England midfielder is available on a free after leaving Manchester United and ticks the homegrown quota as well for Tottenham.

However, while reports have suggested a move might be in the offing for Lingard and Spurs, Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter today to put the dampeners on things a little a bit. Romano has offered an update on Clement Lenglet, and in that same update, claimed there is no offer as yet from Spurs to Lingard.

The ‘fantastic‘ Lingard is said to be wanted by West Ham. The Hammers saw the very best of Lingard during a loan spell and David Moyes has been keen to see him return. Newcastle have also expressed an interest in the midfielder.

Tottenham’s summer couldn’t be going much better so far. Big money signings Richarlison and Yves Bissouma have arrived, while freebies Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic have bolstered the ranks as well.

TBR’s View: Lingard Would Be Useful For Tottenham

There is no denying the talent Jesse Lingard has in the locker and on his day, he is one of the better attacking midfield players in the league. He showed how good he can be at West Ham, and there’s a reason why so many clubs want him.

For Tottenham, the signing could make sense. He fits a number of positions and has experience at international and Champions League level.

However, the risk for Lingard here is that he simply becomes a bit-part player again. That was the problem at United, and he doesn’t automatically dislodge anyone in the Tottenham team as things stand.
