Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to do something ‘special’ in one key position this summer.
There is plenty of work to do at Spurs as Ange Postecoglou continues to build a squad in his image.
The Aussie boss has Tottenham sitting fifth in the Premier League but their latest defeat at Fulham highlighted the need for extra quality in midfield.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are planning to bring in an ‘important’ player in the middle of the park

Speaking to JD Football, Romano discussed Tottenham’s plans for the summer transfer window.
“I see Tottenham signing an important midfielder in the summer transfer window,” the transfer insider said. “But a really important one. I think they want to do something special in that position.”
Romano also added that he expects Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave this summer, which will only increase the likelihood of Spurs moving for another midfielder.
Tottenham transfer news
Despite the fact there are still 10 games remaining in the Premier League season, Spurs are planning ahead for what should be a busy summer window.
In terms of midfield targets, Conor Gallagher continues to be linked with a move to north London.
Spurs reportedly believe they could lure the Englishman away from Stamford Bridge this summer. But Tottenham are also eyeing alternatives to Gallagher, with Atalanta’s Ederson of interest.

Ange Postecoglou is also expected to target attacking reinforcements and the Lilywhites have been tipped to move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto.
We’ve seen plenty of progress on the pitch for Spurs this season but you get the feeling they are still a few signings away from competing at the very top end of the table.
While Postecoglou has a wealth of options to choose from in the middle of the park, they are lacking star quality at the base of midfield.
