‘It is likely’… Reporter backs Tottenham Hotspur to try and sign Premier League winger with ‘amazing pace’

Tottenham Hotspur are being backed to be major players in the race for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto.

Tottenham added a new attacker in January as Timo Werner arrived on loan from RB Leipzig.

The coming months are effectively a trial period for Werner; he can earn a permanent move to Spurs, but he needs to really impress.

Tottenham will have other forward-thinking players in mind for the summer, even after signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest last summer.

A winger who can play on both flanks may be in mind, and there are few better right now than Pedro Neto.

Tottenham backed to be in Pedro Neto race

Neto has been sensational this season, racking up nine goals and two assists in 17 Premier League games.

The 23-year-old is putting injury woes behind him to put together a superb campaign – and it may just be enough to land him a big move.

Top Premier League clubs are being linked with big-money moves for Neto and Tottenham are one of them.

Reporter Ben Jacobs has now told Give Me Sport that he believes Tottenham are ‘likely’ to be in the race for Neto.

Jacobs thinks that Tottenham will rekindle their interest in Neto, but the asking price appears to be a problem.

Jacobs claims that Wolves’ demands are around £10million to £15million more than clubs are willing to pay right now – and that may well include Tottenham.

“Even though they haven’t technically replaced Harry Kane, if they use Son or Richarlison to lead the line, and Timo Werner does stay permanently, maybe there is space in that Neto position,” said Jacobs. “So, I think that it is likely that Tottenham will be there and will rekindle that interest. But I also think there’s a £10m to £15m gulf between how suitors value Neto compared to the number Wolves want now,” he added.

Wolves will be in a strong position to command big money for Neto, especially after such an impressive season.

Tottenham saw Neto’s quality first-hand earlier this month as he produced a stunning assist for Joao Gomes’ winner in North London.

Neto’s incredible run to set up that goal saw Alan Pardew praise the Portuguese talent for having ‘amazing pace’ with Tottenham just unable to handle him.

Yet having spent big on Johnson, Tottenham may well be reluctant to go with such a huge fee for another wide man.

Reports suggest that Wolves want around £80million for Neto, which would be a huge outlay for Spurs.

A centre forward may make more sense for Tottenham after losing Harry Kane, but Neto is a name to keep an eye on in the coming months as Spurs weigh up their summer business.
