Fabrizio Romano says only a 'crazy bid' would help Arsenal sign Leroy Sane
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane recently, but Fabrizio Romano believes a move in January is unlikely – unless Stan Kroenke sanctions a ‘crazy bid’.
The Gunners are in need of a new wide player. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are their first-choice wingers, but Mikel Arteta doesn’t have anyone else of the same level to deploy in their places.
Sane, a player Arteta has worked with before, could be the solution to that problem.
Fabrizio Romano says only a ‘crazy bid’ would help Arsenal sign Leroy Sane
90min revealed recently that Arsenal have enquired about the possibility of signing Sane from Bayern Munich.
Football journalist Pete O’Rourke then claimed the German international would “seriously consider a move to Arsenal because Arteta’s there.” (GiveMeSport)
Sane, a two-time English and German champion, would be an extraordinary signing for most clubs in the world, including Arsenal, who are dreaming of going all the way in the Premier League this season.
However, Bayern have no plans to sell him in the January transfer window. That is not going to change, says Romano, unless there’s a massive bid on the table.
The journalist wrote on CaughtOffside: “I don’t see Bayern selling Sane in January unless a crazy bid arrives – their plan is to continue with him.”
Sane, branded as ‘outstanding’ by Pep Guardiola, still has over two-and-a-half years left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.
TBR View:
Arsenal do need a top-quality winger, and Sane would be a sensational signing.
The German knows the Premier League well, and like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, he has worked with Arteta in the past during their time at Manchester City.
He can play on either flank, is absolutely rapid and as he showed under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, he guarantees goals and assists if he plays regularly.
However, we just can’t see Arsenal breaking the bank for Sane in the January transfer window, especially as they may need to sign a new striker following Jesus’ injury.
