Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to add the finishing touches to their squad.
The Gunners have made one senior signing so far, bringing Italy international defender Riccardo Calafiori to the Emirates Stadium from Bologna.
With just over two weeks until deadline day, Arsenal will likely want to bring in more reinforcements as they look to fight for the Premier League title once again.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided a positive update regarding a “world-class” player the Gunners are trying to sign.

Arsenal in ‘very advanced’ talks for Mikel Merino
The player in question is Mikel Merino, who has gone from strength to strength for Real Sociedad and Spain in recent years.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 28-year-old this summer, with talks said to be progressing well.
Now, Romano has told GiveMeSport that the Gunners are in “very advanced talks” over Merino, with just the “final touches” needed.
“With (Martin) Zubimendi staying at the club, I think Real Sociedad know that Merino has no intention to extend his contract,” began Romano.
“And that selling Merino is probably something that they need to do, also to avoid the possibility of losing him on a free in January for next season.
“And so the idea is still to try to reach an agreement, to find a way with Arsenal.
“They are in very advanced conversations, but still waiting for the final touches.
“And it’s still something important when it’s about payment terms, the structure and all these details.”
Arsenal pushing for ‘world-class’ midfielder
Merino’s contract expires next summer, which means Sociedad need to sell this summer if they are to receive adequate compensation for his services.
Mundo Deportivo recently reported that Arsenal made a €25million (£21.5million) bid to sign Merino, but that fee is considered low.
The Spanish side are apparently hoping for €35million (£30million), which is what Atletico Madrid are said to have offered to sign Merino earlier this summer.
Merino is a “world-class” player who has helped both Sociedad and Spain to glory in recent years. He would be a superb acquisition for Arsenal.
