Arsenal have plenty of work to do before the end of the transfer window.

In the eyes of many, Arsenal still need a new striker and a new right winger, but, right now, moves for either of those positions doesn’t appear to be close.

According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Debrief, Arsenal currently aren’t looking at bringing in new attacking players as their focus is fully on signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

Arsenal are fully focused on Mikel Merino

Romano shared what he knows about Arsenal and the ‘incredible’ midfielder.

“I don’t think it’s all about selling Nketiah, it’s about an opportunity they find for a new striker. At the moment I’m told that Arsenal are completely focused on Mikel Merino. Trying to complete the agreement for the Spanish midfielder to join from Real Sociedad,’ Romano said.

“They have an agreement with the player and they are working on the deal with Real Sociedad with the deal structure.”

Arsenal are working one deal at a time

There isn’t much happening in terms of attacking links at Arsenal, but that is how Arsenal want to operate this summer.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has recently stated that Arsenal are only working on one deal at a time this summer, making a similar point about the Mikel Merino deal while they were working on the Riccardo Calafiori move.”

“Arsenal want to add one midfielder this summer, and Mikel Merino remains a strong option in the list. They have had contacts on the player’s side,’ Romano said.

“They have still not presented an offer to Real Sociedad, why? Because Arsenal like to work like this, deal by deal, so they are working on closing Calafiori, and then they will start concrete negotiations for a midfielder.”

If Arsenal can get Merino through the door, Arsenal will then pivot their attention to another position.

With the start of the Premier League season just over a week away, Arsenal may need to get a move on and get these deals done.
