Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Manchester City star Oleksandr Zinchenko over the last few days, and Fabrizio Romano has some good news for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta was really pushing to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer. The Argentine was viewed as a great option because of his versatility, but he’s on his way to Manchester United now.
That was a big blow for Arsenal, but Edu has wasted no time in going after another player.
Zinchenko became Arsenal’s main target after they understood that a deal for Martinez was not possible, and it looks like the Gunners are set to succeed in this race.
Arsenal reach verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko
Zinchenko has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer. The Ukrainian is a fantastic player, but he just doesn’t get the regular game time that he wants at the Etihad.
A number of clubs were linked with a move for Zinchenko, but Arsenal showed the most interest recently, and thanks to Arteta’s relationship with the player because of their time together at Manchester City, it looks like a deal is about to be completed.
Romano tweeted just a few moments ago that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement in principle for the transfer of Zinchenko, and the fee is said to be around £30 million.
“Arsenal and Manchester City have now reached verbal agreement in principle for Oleksandr Zinchenko, fee around £30m. Personal terms are still discussed. Salary and length of contract, in negotiation – key step to complete the agreement,” Romano tweeted.

Arsenal went into the market looking for a central midfielder and a backup left-back to provide cover for Tierney. In Zinchenko, Mikel Arteta has found a player who can play in both positions.
The Ukrainian, branded as ‘incredible’ by Kyle Walker, has mostly played at left-back for Manchester City, but he plays in the middle of the park for his country. He is technically brilliant, is excellent on the ball and the fact that he’s still only 25 means he’ll only get better.
Romano reveals that the Gunners have agreed a deal for a fee in the region of £30 million. That is excellent business by Edu, and the Ukrainian could really have a huge impact at the Emirates next season.
If Arsenal sign Zinchenko, he will be the club’s fifth signing of this window after Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Gabriel Jesus.
