Aston Villa are among the clubs that have been vying for the loan signing of Chelsea defender Axel Disasi in the January transfer window.
Disasi is unhappy at Chelsea, having made just 17 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side this term, and has been looking to depart Stamford Bridge.
Earlier today, TBR Football sources confirmed that Chelsea were pushing hard for Disasi to join Tottenham, while Villa had all-but given up the chase.
However, there has now been a big development, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Disasi is Villa-bound and going into the details of the deal.

Aston Villa set to sign Chelsea’s Axel Disasi on straight loan deal
Romano has taken to X to declare “here we go” on Axel Disasi to Aston Villa, with Tottenham losing out on the Frenchman.
The transfer insider says the deal Villa and Chelsea have agreed on matches the loan fee offered by Spurs, and Disasi’s salary will be covered by the Villans.
Romano reiterated that Disasi has been saying no to Tottenham all day long, and that he always wanted to join Unai Emery’s side.
Romano concluded by saying there is no buy option included in Villa’s deal for Disasi.
Romano went on to confirm that Villa would be paying a £5million loan fee to Chelsea.
Why Disasi is leaving Chelsea
Disasi, who joined Chelsea in a £39million move from Monaco back in August 2023, has struggled under Maresca so far this season.
Since the turn of the year, Disasi has picked up just 13 minutes of Premier League football, coming off the bench against Wolves.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards | Red cards | Minutes |
| Conference League | 6 | 1 | 2 | 2 | – | 509′ |
| Premier League | 6 | 1 | – | 1 | – | 364′ |
| UECL Qualifiers | 2 | – | – | – | – | 168′ |
| EFL Cup | 2 | – | – | – | – | 153′ |
| FA Cup | 1 | – | – | – | – | 90′ |
| Total | 17 | 2 | 2 | 3 | – | 1.284′ |
The France international did play the full 90 minutes in the FA Cup win over Morecambe, but that already suggested that Maresca saw him as a fringe player.
Furthermore, Trevoh Chalobah’s recall from his loan spell at Crystal Palace would have pushed Disasi further down the pecking order at Chelsea.
With that in mind, a move for Disasi is by far the best outcome for him, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
