Manchester United supporters are desperate to see Ruben Amorim attack the transfer market with less than a month before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign begins.

United brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolves as their sole acquisition since recording their worst Premier League finish to date, and they still have much more work to do before they can begin closing the gap at the top of the table.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have continued their ruthless streak in the transfer market with high-profile signings such as Liam Delap, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Joao Pedro added to the Club World Cup-winning squad.

However, both sides can now cross off one name from the shortlist, as breaking news emerging from Italy signals the end of a long-drawn-out saga for the English duo.

Manchester United and Chelsea miss out on Victor Oshimhen

According to Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray have finally put an end to the summer-long speculation regarding Victor Osimhen’s future.

The Super Lig champions have struck a £65 million deal with Napoli following his successful loan spell in Istanbul, wherein he scored 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Manchester United and Chelsea have a long-standing interest in Osimhen. Still, as the pair have focused their attention on alternative attacking options, Galatasaray has moved to secure the permanent signature of the Nigerian international.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel believes the supporters would have loved to have seen Osimhen at Stamford Bridge, and rightfully so. The 26-year-old guarantees goals wherever he plays and has proven his desire to remain in Europe after turning down multiple lucrative offers to join Al-Hilal.

Nevertheless, Enzo Maresca can still be happy with the business his side has conducted thus far this summer. Ruben Amorim, however, may feel his side has missed a monumental opportunity to bring a world-renowned goalscorer to Old Trafford.

Manchester United could have done with Victor Osimhen

Back in April, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey reported that Manchester United had concerns about sanctioning a significant outlay on one player this summer.

While this reasoning justified pursuing alternative targets to Osimhen, the Red Devils have since spent over £120 million on two signings alone.

After weeks of negotiations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave in to Brentford’s demands and struck a £65 million deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo following Newcastle United’s interest in his teammate Yoane Wissa.

Indeed, Mbeumo has proven Premier League experience, but for the same price, Ratcliffe could have armed Amorim with a serial winner in Osimhen.

Only time will tell if the decision proves costly at Old Trafford, but it is concerning to see the transfer strategy shift so drastically in such a short matter of months.

There are many holes Amorim must fill in his Manchester United side before the Premier League campaign kicks off against Arsenal on 17 August. As things stand, it is not looking promising.
