'Expected to stay': Fabrizio Romano hints Tottenham's hopes of signing 'amazing' £17m man are over
Tottenham might fancy signing Emi Martinez but Fabrizio Romano has given the latest on the goalkeeper and it’s not ideal news for Spurs.
Antonio Conte’s side have been linked with a move for Martinez recently. Reports stemming from Dean Jones’ comments to GiveMeSport suggest the Argentinian is on the radar of Spurs as they seek a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris.
Martinez was one of the stars of the show over in Qatar as his heroics helped Argentina win the World Cup. He saved a penalty in the final and further enhanced his reputation as one of the best stoppers in the game.
However, while Tottenham might like the look of Martinez, Fabrizio Romano has moved to effectively quash those rumours.
Taking to his Twitter account last night, Romano confirmed that Martinez is expected to remain at Villa. And at the same time, it rules out any move from Bayern Munich for the stopper as well.
TBR’s View: Martinez can get a move if he’s patient
Moving in January would seem an odd one for Emi Martinez anyway. Coming off the back of his World Cup win, Aston Villa fans will take to him even more.
Further, with a new manager in place in Unai Emery, there is every chance Villa kick on and actually start competing for Europe anyway. That might scratch the itch, at least temporarily, for Martinez.
For Tottenham, it looks like they might have to look elsewhere. They do need a replacement for Lloris. But right now, it seems it won’t be Martinez.
