Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has agreed a deal to join Chelsea after his relegation clause was activated.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who shared the update on social media.

It’s been a summer of change at Elland Road after their relegation from the Premier League.

Not only has the ownership changed at the top of the club, but the manager and playing staff has been switched up too.

Daniel Farke has experience guiding teams back to the Premier League but will want his squad settled shortly.

The new ownership have brought in a few new players but most of their transfer business has been outgoings.

Now, star player Tyler Adams is heading to Chelsea after a season at Leeds.

Described on Sky Sports as being ‘magnificent’ last season, Adams now looks set to make an immediate return to the top flight.

Leeds would have been desperate to hold onto Adams for their season in the Championship.

However, few fans will begrudge him making the move especially as it’s out of his control.

Adams set to switch Leeds for Chelsea

Taking to Twitter today, Romano said: “Tyler Adams to Chelsea, here we go! The relegation clause worth £20m has been activated today.

“Agreement reached with player’s agent in London over personal terms and now medical tests to follow — after 10 days negotiations, deal now done.”

It’s been a tough couple of days for transfers at Elland Road.

After believing they had a deal agreed for Max Aarons, he appears to be on his way to Bournemouth.

Archie Gray has looked fantastic this season and could be the man to replace Adams.

In fact, the American international has already been praising the teenager.

Given the fact Chelsea have activated Adams’s release clause at Leeds, a deal should go through relatively quickly.

Adams hasn’t featured for Leeds this season and missed the end of the previous campaign due to injury.

It will be interesting to see if he can break into the team at Stamford Bridge, or if he’s swapping being a star player at Leeds for a place on the bench.
