Speculation linking Spurs and Cristian Romero looks to be gathering pace.
Tottenham have been linked with the Atalanta defender for some weeks now.
And recent speculation has suggested Spurs have been edging closer to the Argentina ace’s signature.
Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the deal was on the home straight.
Later on, the Italian added that Atalanta have “completed and confirmed” the Merih Demiral deal.
This would effectively pave the way for Spurs to sign Romero.
Romano even made clear that the Serie A side were signing Demiral as Romero’s direct replacement.
And here is Romano’s latest update on the saga, in the early hours of Wednesday morning:
As of Wednesday morning, Atalanta are yet to confirm Demiral’s arrival on their social media or website.
Spurs set to sign “superb player”
In July, Alasdair Gold predicted that Romero could transform the Tottenham backline right away were he to join.
“Cristian Romero is a superb player,” the football.london correspondent said on the Tottenham Talk Live Transfer Q&A.

“If Spurs can pull that one off I think they’d transform their defence with one player.
“As I understand it… Romero is the one (centre-back) he (Fabio Paratici) would like the most.
“So hopefully it will happen because it would be transformative.”
