Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal could sign goal-machine winger who 'has everything' for just £38m
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that reported Arsenal target Cody Gakpo has a price tag of between £33.5m and £38m.
The Gunners have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window, but they are yet to sign a senior winger this summer.
But last week, football.london reiterated that Arsenal are hoping to bring Gakpo to the Emirates Stadium.
The PSV ace enjoyed a sensational campaign last time out, registering 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 club appearances.
Prior speculation suggested the Dutch giants would consider selling Gakpo for £34m.
Then, Dutch outlet ED reported that PSV want a ‘gigantic’ fee much higher than the above fee.
But now, Romano has claimed that Arsenal – or any other suitors – may not have to pay much more than £34m after all.
“At the moment, despite some speculation involving Arsenal, the situation is quiet around Cody Gakpo,” the transfer insider told CaughtOffside via Substack.
“He has always been on the list for Leeds United, but not in the first position, just after Luis Sinisterra, who was a priority of the club.
“PSV Eindhoven are hoping to keep him and his price tag has always been around €40-45m (around £33.5m to £38m).
“He may be a name to monitor in the coming weeks as a big opportunity for many clubs.
“But PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes to keep him at the club.”
“He is going to be an important player”
Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen recently praised Gakpo.
He told Dutch publication NOS: “That boy has everything.
“Fine feeling for the ball, a good through ball, dribbles and is strong between the lines.
“I really enjoy him. He is going to be an important player for the Oranje squad.
“He is ready to be in the base of the Oranje squad. I would definitely draft him.
“There are other options, but they are not as effective as him.”
Gakpo primarily plays on the left wing, but can also feature on the right flank, at centre-forward, and at No. 10.
A report from Soccerlink in the Netherlands claims that Arsenal’s scouts were reminded of club legend Thierry Henry when they watched Gakpo against Ajax in last season’s cup final.
He ticks a lot of boxes for Arsenal, and so the Gunners really ought to make a move.
