‘Exceptionally good’: Gary Lineker blown away by £75m player Tottenham are reportedly trying to sign

Gary Lineker has raved about reported Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol after his performance for Croatia yesterday.

2018 finalists Croatia made it into the round of 16 following a 0-0 draw with Belgium, who were favourites to win the group but crashed out.

Gvardiol knew if he could keep a clean sheet, Croatia would be through and so it proved, with Romelu Lukaku msising four huge chances in the second half to win the game.

After the clean sheet, Lineker shared his opinion on the central defender, who has been linked with Spurs ahead of the transfer window opening.

Lineker on Gvardiol

“Gvardiol, he looks like an exceptionally good defender. He really does,” said Lineker after the game on BBC Sport.

“Gvardiol today was excellent and has been excellent all tournament,” added pundit Micah Richards.

“No wonder there’s an array of teams looking at him because the way he comes out with the ball, the way he reads the game, the way he goes into a tackle.”

Gvardiol is rated at £75 million by RB Leipzig, which is just one reason why any potential Spurs bid could end up being unsuccessful.

Daniel Levy backed Antonio Conte during the summer transfer window but it is highly doubtful that he would go so big mid-season for the Croatian international.

Chelsea are also sniffing around and with their financial clout, Stamford Bridge seems a more likely destination for the developing central defender who has done his reputation no harm in Qatar.
