Ex-Liverpool star is playing like a ‘monster’ as he scores again for new club

Arne Slot has navigated the dramatic changes at Anfield with ease as his Liverpool side have enjoyed a tremendous start to their Premier League title defence.

The Reds were handed a tough start to the 2025/26 season, opening with Bournemouth, who finished inside the top half of the table last year, before facing Champions League opposition in Newcastle United and Arsenal.

However, it would be newly promoted Burnley who would provide the stiffest test for the champions as they were forced to rely on a 95th-minute Mohamed Salah penalty to secure a 1-0 win at Turf Moor.

Liverpool have encountered some teething problems, but Arne Slot has aimed to integrate his summer additions into the starting line-up.

And although Hugo Ekitike has hit the ground running in English football, Florian Wirtz has struggled, among others, while a player sold by Slot to help fund the summer rebuild is certainly enjoying his new chapter away from Anfield.

Darwin Nunez scores again for Al-Hilal

Darwin Nunez was one of many casualties of the biggest transfer window in Liverpool’s history as he completed a £56 million move to Al-Hilal after three years in English football.

The Reds sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich less than a fortnight before Nunez followed the Colombian out the door after the pair were acquired to be the long-term successors to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Now, the 25-year-old will compete against the former Reds in Saudi Arabia, and after Nunez enjoyed a scintillating start for Al-Hilal, he has rediscovered his goalscoring touch away from Anfield.

Nunez was introduced for the second half of Al-Hilal’s AFC Champions League match against Al-Duhail with Simone Inzaghi’s side trailing by a goal at the break.

The Uruguayan equalised in the 57th minute to score his second goal in three appearances in Saudi Arabia, with former AC Milan full-back Theo Hernandez scoring the winner.

As revealed by TBR Football, the Liverpool players were unhappy with Nunez’s departure, as, despite his shortcomings, he was a valued member of the Anfield dressing room.

Darwin Nunez is playing like a “monster” for Al-Hilal

Former Almeria teammate Valentin Vada described Nunez as a “monster” when commenting on the Uruguayan’s Instagram post.

Indeed, he failed to meet the expectations set for him when he arrived at Anfield in 2022, but that does not, by any means, suggest that the Reds supporters wish the forward any ill fortune.

He left the Reds on amicable terms, and his contagious energy and passion for the club will undoubtedly be missed by the supporters who adopted Nunez as one of their own.

And who knows, should Nunez keep up his goalscoring exploits in Saudi Arabia, it may not be long before the forward returns to Europe as he looks to resurrect his career away from Anfield.
