‘Every chance’: Arsenal’s £60m player could realistically end up signing for Chelsea – journalist

Aaron Ramsdale has been relegated to being Arsenal’s second-choice goalkeeper.

The England international hasn’t started a league game for the Gunners for two months at this point, and it’s hard to see where his next start is coming from.

As ever, when a player of this calibre is relegated to being a bench option at Arsenal, rumours start up regarding their future.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing the goalkeeper’s options at this point, and the journalist reckons that there’s every chance the reported £60m-rated goalkeeper could end up going to Chelsea.

Chelsea an option for Ramsdale

Bailey shared what he knows about the stopper.

“The one situation we need to keep an eye on is Aaron Ramsdale. My understanding is that Chelsea are keeping an active eye on this situation. We did a piece in September saying he would fight for his position and he hadn’t made a decision on his future, but even since then, it’s become clear that David Raya is the number one at Arsenal. Ramsdale is now considering his options, and if Arsenal make him available there’s every chance Chelsea will snap him up, there’s every chance,” Bailey said.

Same problems

Ramsdale surely wants to be moving to a club where he’ll be the undisputed number one, and, sadly, it’s hard to say with confidence that he’ll have that at Chelsea.

Robert Sanchez is already a decent option between the sticks, but even beyond Sanchez, Kepa Arrizabalaga is still on the books, while Gabriel Slonina is meant to be a star of the future.

Ramsdale is a very talented goalkeeper, but after this whole debacle, he needs to join a club where the goalkeeping hierarchy is clear and he’s at the very top of it.

A move to Chelsea may not be what Ramsdale needs right now.
