Everton are reportedly the ‘standout candidates’ in any Premier League pursuit of Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to MARCA.
The Colombian is expected to leave Real Madrid in the next transfer window. The playmaker has been on the fringes at the Santiago Bernabeu for some time and it appears the likes of Everton, Arsenal, and Wolves are keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
MARCA is suggesting that Everton are leading any potential charge to sign the Colombian golden boy. James has worked with Carlo Ancelotti at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

In fact, the report even claims that James wanted a move to join Ancelotti at Napoli last summer, a transfer that was often rumoured. However, no agreement ever came to fruition and James has had to play a peripheral role at Real under Zinedine Zidane instead.
As for Real, they are looking to sell James, whose current contract expires in 2021. MARCA recently suggested that he might be available on the cheap, despite his previous (BBC) £71 million price-tag.
The Daily Mail reported this week that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is ‘determined’ to sign Champions League quality players in the next transfer window. With James seemingly keen to link back up with the Everton boss, perhaps the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner could genuinely be on his way to Goodison Park.
