After a tough time at Goodison Park, Tom Davies appears to be back on track and developing into a fantastic player at the heart of Everton’s midfield.

The 22-year-old was outstanding on Wednesday as the Toffees beat Tottenham in the FA Cup. His performance prompted plenty of Everton fans to laud the academy graduate. Some felt that it was his best display yet for the club.

Davies – who earns £25,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is enjoying a superb run of form right now. It really appears that the benefits of working closely with Carlo Ancelotti are now becoming apparent.

If his form is a sign of what is to come, Everton could have an incredibly special talent on their hands.

And that is why they must be incredibly relieved that their stance on his future with the club has not come back to haunt them.

Sky Sports reported in September that Southampton were keen to sign Davies on loan. It was suggested that the Saints also wanted an option to buy in the deal.

And it appears that the structure of a potential move was what caused it to fall through.

That is because, according to Sky Sports, Everton wanted to sell Davies permanently.

At the time, it seemed a reasonable stance. Davies did struggle to kick on after bursting into the first-team fold a few years ago.

But the youngster now appears to have taken his game to another level.

Southampton may be kicking themselves for not making a move.

And Everton must be delighted that no club decided to take advantage of their reported stance.
