Sean Dyche is still on the hunt for a physically imposing midfielder to bring to Everton.
The Toffees lost one of the most formidable midfielders around in Amadou Onana earlier this summer – who sealed a £50m move to Aston Villa – and while the signing of Jesper Lindstrom on loan appears to be clever business, a more physical presence is needed alongside the Dane.
Now, Everton are making a late attempt to sign a player of this ilk…
Everton trying to sign Jens Cajuste
A story from Tutto Napoli now states that Everton are attempting to hijack Ipswich’s advanced talks to sign Jens Cajuste on loan from Napoli.
The Toffees have already negotiated with Napoli this summer over the signing of the aforementioned Lindstrom, and are now keen to strike another agreement with the Serie A outfit.
It comes after Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on Wednesday that Ipswich were closing in on a deal to sign Cajuste on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

Tutto Napoli write that the 6ft 2in Sweden international has already made his way to England having struck an agreement to join Ipswich, although Everton are not entirely out of the race yet, and are trying to make a late swoop to sign the £25,374-a-week man.
Cajuste – who Football Transfers found has similarities to Donny van de Beek – made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, providing two assists.
Ipswich might have already moved on
An interesting development has taken place as rumours about Everton and Cajuste emerge.
Mike McGrath of the Telegraph claims that Ipswich are now on the brink of signing Kalvin Phillips in a loan deal from Manchester City.
In our view, that could suggest that the Tractor Boys are now turning attentions away from Cajuste.

It comes after talkSPORT claimed that Phillips was also a target for Everton – so perhaps a scenario where the Toffees wanted to sign Cajuste more has led to the England international moving to Ipswich.

Whatever was discussed behind the scenes, both Everton and Ipswich look set to land a new defensive midfielder each, in what has been a fairly eventful transfer merry-go-round.
