Report: Everton now want to sign 'magnificent' Chelsea player who is pushing for World Cup 2022 place
Everton are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher, according to a report from The Telegraph today.
The young Chelsea midfielder was one of the standout performers in the Premier League last season as he enjoyed a fine spell on loan with Crystal Palace. That form saw him catch the eye of the England manager Gareth Southgate, and Gallagher is now firmly in contention for a place on the plane to Qatar in December.
However, he has a decision to make on his immediate future. Chelsea are thought to be big fans of his but there remains doubts over whether he will replace the likes of Kante and Kovacic in midfield. And with that in mind, The Telegraph reports how Everton would be keen on signing Gallagher.
Fellow young Blues midfielder, Billy Gilmour, is also mentioned as being admired by Frank Lampard. But it is the signing of Gallagher which will interest Everton fans the most.
Lauded as ‘magnificent‘ by Ian Wright, Conor Gallagher was one of Palace’s best players last season. Known for his all-action displays in the middle, there is little wonder Lampard is a fan. Indeed, the Everton boss will have worked with Gallagher while in charge of Chelsea previously.
TBR’s View: Gallagher Would Fly At Everton
This could be the perfect move for Gallagher really. He gets to play regular football and play under a manager who rates him highly and knows the position well.
Much like with Vieira at Palace, Lampard could help develop Gallagher’s game and maybe add those extra goals to proceedings that would really take him to the next level.
For Everton, this is the sort of signing they need to be making. Gallagher has proven quality and has a point to prove as well, with the World Cup just around the corner.
