Euro 2020: Forshaw reacts to Ben White England call-up
Adam Forshaw has paid tribute to Ben White on Instagram after it was announced that the former Leeds United loanee had been promoted to the final England squad for Euro 2020.
White was one of several players who was given a second chance to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad after Trent Alexander-Arnold sustained an injury in last week’s friendly win over Austria.
The 23-year-old started on Sunday as England faced Romania. And he went on to produce a superb display at the Riverside Stadium.
Plenty of fans were impressed by White’s performance. And the 23-year-old has now been rewarded.
As noted by BBC Sport, he has got the nod as Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.
Remarkable rise of Ben White continues as he secures England spot at Euro 2020
It has been an amazing run for White. Just three years ago, he was concluding a campaign on loan in League Two.
He has dealt with every step up superbly, but it was arguably his loan move to Leeds that really put the defender on the map.
White was a sensational signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He featured in every game as Leeds secured the Championship title.
He has since shone in the top flight with parent club Brighton. The youngster was named as the club’s Player of the Season.
So it should come as no surprise that he has made an impressive start to life on the international stage.
For many involved at Leeds and Brighton, it would have seemed a matter of time until White would get a chance with the Three Lions.
He is capable of playing in a back two, back three, or even in holding midfield. So he could be the perfect addition to Southgate’s squad.
Following the announcement, former Leeds teammate Forshaw took to Instagram. And his reaction probably summed up how many Whites fans feel about the news…
