ESPN pundit Craig Burley was seriously impressed with the performance of Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo in their FA Cup win on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag‘s side surprised many people with the way they started the game against Liverpool. They were brilliant early on, and even though they made quite a few mistakes later in the game, they managed to get over the line after extra time. Mainoo was outstanding.

ESPN pundit praises Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo is still just 18 years old, but an argument can be made that he has been Manchester United’s best player almost every time he has played.
The teenager is a terrific talent. Not many players can step up at that age in the Premier League and perform the way he has done this season.
Manchester United‘s midfield isn’t great, but Mainoo has been the shining light. He has been so good over the last few months, and his performance against Liverpool was just incredible.
Craig Burley was beyond impressed with Mainoo. He claimed that the youngster looks like someone who has 300 appearances under his belt already, which makes him a ‘scary’ talent – not for Manchester United but for their rivals.
The pundit said on ESPN: “Can I just have a little word quickly on Kobbie Mainoo? Holy smokes! We’ve seen it this season, he was injured at the start of the season, but we’ve seen it in patches, particularly recently.
“He has got McTominay there, he’s a sort of mid-20s international footballer, workman-like, scores the odd goal for club and country, grafts, has a limited talent level on the ball.
“And then we have young Kobbie Mainoo playing against three internationals – one’s won a World Cup in Mac Allister, one’s the Hungarian captain in Szoboszlai, and the other one, Endo, plays for his country, Japan.
“And here we have a teenager on the ball as if he’s got 300 games for Man United. It’s quite scary.”

Mainoo is an incredible talent
Manchester United’s academy has produced a few excellent players over the years, and Kobbie Mainoo is right up there with the very best.
Not many people outside Manchester United had really heard about the teenager. He came into the side as an unknown quantity, but it’s safe to say now that everybody knows who he is. Jurgen Klopp even gave him a high-five after he was substituted.
Mainoo’s composure on the ball is extraordinary for his age. He’s never fazed, not even when playing against the best players in the Premier League.
Manchester United fans have their doubts about the direction their club is going in, but the one thing they can be sure of is that Mainoo will become an absolute superstar in the coming years.
