Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has claimed that he wants Scott McTominay to play higher up the pitch because of his ability to score goals.
The Scotsman was the star of the show for the Red Devils against Chelsea last night. He scored twice to help Manchester United pick up a fantastic win over Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Ten Hag was delighted with McTominay’s performance.

Erik ten Hag wants Scott McTominay to play higher up the pitch at Manchester United
Scott McTominay has been absolutely incredible for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United over the last few months.
The Red Devils have been struggling up front, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Rasmus Hojlund and Antony all not firing in front of goal.
United have needed someone to step up and put the ball in the back of the net, and McTominay has been that guy for Ten Hag this season on more than one occasion.
The Scotsman has now scored six goals in all competitions for Manchester United this season in just 12 starts. That is an excellent return for someone who usually plays deep in midfield.
Speaking about McTominay yesterday, Ten Hag revealed that he wants the midfielder to play higher up the pitch and make runs into the box because he is a ‘very good finisher’.
He said, as per Manchester United’s official website: “Scott came in the right positions and scored two great goals.
“We want him to play a little bit higher on the pitch. We want to reach him there. He has to make his runs in behind as he is strong on that. He has a good smell to come in the right moment in front of the goal. He is a very good finisher.”

Manchester United have to keep Scott McTominay now
There were a lot of rumours about Scott McTominay leaving Manchester United in the summer.
The Scot seemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. West Ham United and Newcastle were both linked with a move to sign, but United demanded £40 million to let him go (Sacha Tavolieri).
No club was prepared to pay such a big fee for McTominay, and the midfielder had no choice but to stay at Manchester United beyond deadline day.
That has worked out brilliantly for both parties, and McTominay is one of Ten Hag’s most important players now. There’s no way he should be allowed to leave in January.
