Enzo Maresca is heading to Manchester City to replace Pep Guardiola and is already making transfer plans for the summer window.

Maresca has agreed a deal with Man City already, but he is taking over at a time when the club are undergoing something of a rebuild.

The likes of John Stones and veteran midfielder Bernardo Silva are departing, but City may already have a replacement for the latter in mind, with their incoming manager said to be ‘desperate’ for a reunion with Enzo Fernandez.

Enzo Maresca is ‘desperate’ to bring Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City

Talk that Maresca wants to bring Fernandez to Manchester City first emerged last week after it was all but confirmed that the former Leicester City boss is heading to the Etihad Stadium.

The Argentine is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2032.

However, journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on his future this week, saying a Chelsea exit is a ‘concrete topic’.

City are not the only club eyeing a move for the South American, however, with PSG and Real Madrid also credited with an interest.

Speaking via X/Twitter, Plettenberg stated: “Enzo Fernandez leaving Chelsea and a possible move to Manchester City remain a concrete topic. Enzo Maresca is still desperate to sign him.

“He sees him as a type of player City currently do not have in the squad. #MCFC Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also have him on their shortlist.”

Enzo Maresca and Manchester City have discussed transfer strategy

Alongside Fernandez, Manchester City have been mooted to sign a new full-back amid a lack of depth in that area.

And though he is not officially manager yet, Fabrizio Romano has now shared that Maresca has been involved in talks about the Sky Blues’ transfer strategy already.

He stated: “Everything is absolutely completed done sealed. I know there are several reports about this, but he is the Manchester City manager. The contract is okay. Length of the contract is okay, 2029.

“The salary is agreed. The transfer strategy has already been discussed between the director, between the board of Manchester City, and Maresca himself.”
