Arsenal are interested in signing Donyell Malen and are set to send scouts to watch him play in the coming weeks.

The Gunners are expected to strengthen their attack in the summer window. They have been linked with plenty of names, and Borussia Dortmund star Malen is the latest to come out of the Arsenal rumour mill.

Arsenal to send scouts to watch Donyell Malen at Borussia Dortmund

Donyell Malen is not a new name to Arsenal fans.

The Dutchman spent two years as a Gunner between 2015 and 2017. He joined the club’s academy from Ajax and was one of the most talented youngsters at Hale End at the time.

Malen wanted first-team opportunities in 2017, but Arsene Wenger didn’t think he was ready. When the attacker decided he wanted to leave, the former Gunners boss sold him to PSV for just £500,000 (The Sun).

Nearly seven years later now, Malen plays his football at Borussia Dortmund, and he is having a fine season there, having scored 12 goals in all competitions. Even Thierry Henry has been impressed with him.

He has now caught the eye of Arsenal, with GiveMeSport claiming that Edu Gaspar’s Gunners will now send scouts to watch Malen play for Dortmund against the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks.

The report claims Malen is not the first name on Arsenal’s wish list, but he is viewed as a cost-effective option in the summer as he will be available for just £26 million.

Malen opened the door for Arsenal return last week

It has been nearly seven years since Donyell Malen left Arsenal for PSV Eindhoven, but it seems he still has the Gunners in his heart.

The Borussia Dortmund attacker was asked by Voetbal Zone this week to name one club he would love to join when he leaves Signal Iduna Park.

Malen quickly named Arsenal and revealed the Gunners are still his favourite team.

He said: “I went to Arsenal so yes, them. I want Arsenal, my favourite club. Yes [about returning there]. I played there in my youth, I really wanted to break through there so yes.”
