Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar has explained how the Gunners ‘used’ Gabriel Jesus to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.

After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, the Gunners had to strengthen their squad. Mikel Arteta and Edu had a plan going into the summer transfer window, and they seem to have executed them pretty well so far.

Arsenal brought in Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner first, but their biggest move was to bring Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. The Gunners signed the Brazilian for £45 million (Goal), and apart from impressing on the pitch in pre-season, the 25-year-old appears to have helped the club with a transfer as well.

Edu has revealed that Jesus played a part in helping Arsenal sign Zinchenko.

The Arsenal technical director sat down for an interview with the club’s official website today, and he was asked about the role Jesus played in helping him sign Zinchenko.

Edu replied: “No, of course, we have to use what we have, not to convince, but to talk to the players that we target because there are some doubts, there are some ideas, there are some comments to the players to make them feel really comfortable.

“And of course, Gabriel and Zinchenko have played together, so they know each other very well.

“We just said to Gabriel to explain to him what is Arsenal because he’s already faced it, he’s already here and he’s really enjoying it. So that’s why we used a little bit of Gabriel to talk to him as well.”

Arsenal deserve immense credit for signing both Jesus and Zinchenko this summer.

The duo weren’t exactly the main men at Manchester City, but both players definitely played a big part in helping Pep Guardiola and co win the Premier League last season.

Arsenal have brought in Jesus to help them reach a whole new level in the coming years. The Brazilian has already shown in pre-season that he’s a world-class player, and his help off the pitch now has benefitted the Gunners as well.

Arteta is unlikely to target another Manchester City player in this window, but if he does, he can count on Jesus to lend him a helping hand.
