Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar is adamant that the Gunners’ latest signing, Oleksandr Zinchenko, will take the club to a whole new level.

Mikel Arteta’s side came ever so close to finishing fourth last season. After a disastrous start to the campaign, Arsenal turned their season around and were in the driving seat to return to the Champions League with just three games left in the fixture list.

However, back-to-back losses against Tottenham and Newcastle United killed their dreams, and they finished fifth.

Arsenal have strengthened heavily in this window so far. Gabriel Jesus is the standout signing for the Gunners, but Edu believes it’s Zinchenko who will push the Arteta’s side to another level.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the Brazilian said: “I’m very pleased to see how we’re working as a team here in the club. We put a plan together and some plans in place and Zinchenko was on the list.

“We’ve been very proactive to start to talk to the agents, to start to talk to Man City and we are pleased to have the player here because he has the attributes which I am sure are going to put our squad in a different level.

“Zinchenko has exactly what we need because Mikel has worked with him before and they know each other very well. That, of course, helps us to make the decisions because sometimes you can have a very good player, but sometimes they don’t have the mentality that we are looking for.

“That’s something we have to be really careful about. So that’s why Zinchenko was the one who ticked the box of what we were really looking for.”

Gabriel Jesus is undoubtedly Arsenal’s marquee signing this summer, but Zinchenko may just be the one who will help the Gunners get out of multiple tricky situations.

The Ukrainian is a fantastic player. He’s technically brilliant, his work rate is fantastic and even though he was never really the first-choice at Manchester City, his experience will really come in handy.

Zinchenko’s best trait, however, is his versatility. The 25-year-old can play anywhere in central midfield and also at left-back. He will give Arteta a ton of options next season, and that may hugely benefit the Gunners.

Arsenal take on Chelsea later tonight and Zinchenko is in line to make his debut.
