Edu and Arteta will really regret not bringing £23m man to Arsenal this summer - TBR View
Arsenal were once reportedly monitoring a striker deemed the “next Thierry Henry”.
However, they didn’t make a move for him, and now they will be coming up against him in the Premier League.
Last summer, South African outlet The Far Post claimed Arsenal were one of the sides vying for Patson Daka’s signature.
Daka scored 34 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Red Bull Salzburg last season.
Of those, 27 came in the Austrian Bundesliga, which earned him the Golden Boot.
Daka also won the league’s player of the season accolade after helping Salzburg win their eighth straight title.
Former Lille and Zambia coach Herve Renard previously said of the player: “Write his name down because he’s very, very promising”. (Besoccer)
Dan Kabwe, another of his former coaches, told News Diggers last year: “When I saw Patson Daka, what came into my mind is this guy is the next Thierry Henry – and in no time he has proved it.”
All these credentials surely would’ve made him perfect for Arsenal.
However, he will now play for one of the Gunners’ main rivals for the top four – Leicester City.
Worse for Arsenal, Daka joined Leicester for a fee of £23million – a low price considering how talented he is.
And if Daka goes on to have a big say in the race for the top four next season at the expense of Arsenal, then Edu and Arteta will regret having missed out on him.
