Ederson issues verdict on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker
Ederson has told The Goalkeepers’ Union that he believes that Liverpool stopper Alisson Becker is one of the best in the world.
Of course, Liverpool and Manchester City have set the standards in the Premier League the last few years. They have traded the title between them over the last four seasons. And the trophy looks set to go to one again this year – with City certainly in the driving seat.
Obviously, their creative players often take the headlines. But a key part of their success has been the quality of their defences and the two players who have been between the sticks.
Alisson’s record at Anfield has been unbelievable. In all competitions, he has kept 74 clean sheets in 159 games. Meanwhile, he has only conceded 127 goals in that time.
He is already up to 15 clean sheets in all competitions this season. So it is no surprise that £35 million man Ederson had incredibly high praise for Alisson when speaking about his countryman.
“He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment, and I wish him all the best,” he told the Goalkeepers’ Union.
Battle between Ederson and Alisson encapsulates how Manchester City and Liverpool have defined this era
Certainly, these Liverpool and Manchester City teams have defined this current era in the same way Manchester United and Arsenal dominated for most of the Premier League’s early years.
City have had the upper hand in the top-flight. But obviously, Jurgen Klopp’s men have lifted the Champions League.
Unquestionably, the amount of quality within both teams is outrageous. And perhaps no single head-to-head better encapsulates the battle between the two better than the one between Alisson and Ederson.
Both have more than played their part in redefining how a goalkeeper should play. And it would be extremely difficult to argue with anyone who named one of the pair as the world’s best.
Ederson certainly deems that Alisson is right up there.
