Newcastle United finally have something to get excited about with the new season just one week away from starting.

Eddie Howe‘s side are opening up their 2024/25 season with a clash on Tyneside against the newly-promoted Southampton.

However, there may be some frustrations still in the air around St James’ Park with Newcastle going into the campaign having not done much business in the market.

Considering the riches behind the scenes at Newcastle, the Toon’s only signing which could really play a part in the starting XI has been Lloyd Kelly on a free.

On the back of a season riddled by injuries, it is will be no surprise that Howe would have hoped for more than what he’s been provided this summer.

But it seems as if there is something to have happened recently on Tyneside that has put a smile on the 46-year-old’s face.

Eddie Howe left excited by what’s just happened at Newcastle

Just a few weeks remain for Newcastle to get their business done before the window shuts at the end of the month.

And there is one significant signing who could be headed for the north east over the coming weeks.

Newcastle are keen to conclude a deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi with talks underway for the centre-back.

With that rumbling on in the background, Howe admitted on Thursday there was something else which had pleased him at the club.

Although it has been a slow start to the summer for Newcastle, the Toon have now announced their latest signing of striker William Osula.

The youngster has signed from Sheffield United in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £10m.

And it is a move which has certainly cheered Howe up a little with the Newcastle boss telling the club’s website of his delight.

“William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United,” said Howe.

“We have watched his development closely and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career.

“I know our supporters will join me in giving William a very warm welcome to the club and the city.”

What William Osula said about signing for Newcastle

The 21-year-old talent will not be dislodging Alexander Isak from the starting XI any time soon but he could find himself on the bench amid Callum Wilson’s injury issues.

Osula played 21 times in the Premier League for the Blades last season but was unable to find the scoresheet with all of his appearances from the bench.

Clearly, Howe feels this is a player who has a lot. togive and Osula, himself, has shared his excitement at joining the Magpies.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United,” he told the club’s website.

“It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came.
