£18m striker is on the verge of leaving club after Newcastle show interest

Newcastle United are thought to be in the market for a striker after Callum Wilson’s latest injury.

The Tynesiders have managed to keep hold of Alexander Isak thus far despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, though, the need for a back-up forward is apparent.

Wilson is expected to be sidelined for the start of the new Premier League season and given his previous injury woes, it’d be a risk to solely rely on him.

So, with that said, Newcastle are thought to be looking at a highly rated number nine on the continent.

Newcastle interested in Boulaye Dia

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia is on the verge of leaving the club after being relegated to Serie B.

It’s not yet known where his next destination will be but the report notes that Newcastle United are showing an interest.

Dia is also being targetted by a trio of other Premier League clubs in West Ham United, Everton and Brentford.

The 27-year-old had an £18m asking price earlier this year but Salernitana’s negotiating position has significantly weakened, so he could depart for substantially less.

Boulaye Dia statistics

Dia was unavailable for much of last season through injury but still managed to net four times in 12 Serie A starts.

The previous season he scored 16 goals across 33 appearances, so evidently when fit, he’s a very proficient finisher.

Dia is also a very versatile forward, having operated as a left winger and as a number 10 last term, so if Newcastle were to sign him, he’d provide cover in a number of areas.
