Eddie Howe could give full debut to ‘incredible’ player tonight after Bruno Guimaraes fitness concerns – TBR View

Newcastle United have had a great start to the season under Eddie Howe.

Howe’s side are currently unbeaten, winning their opening match against Nottingham Forest before three draws on the bounce.

Those draws came against a stubborn Wolves side, away at high-flying Brighton and league champions Manchester City.

Newcastle have also made some sensible additions in the transfer market.

Matt Targett, Sven Botman and Nick Pope have made the Magpies much more defensively solid.

They’ve also just broken their transfer record with the signing of Alexander Isak.

One position Newcastle haven’t strengthened this summer is their midfield.

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have formed a fantastic partnership, alongside Joe Willock.

However, Eddie Howe now has a decision to make, with several injuries in that position.

Jonjo Shelvey is a long-term absentee, and Bruno Guimaraes is still a major doubt.

This could mean Eddie Howe finally gives a full league debut to Elliot Anderson against Liverpool tonight.

Howe could give Anderson full league debut

Eddie Howe has already admitted that the 19-year-old is pushing hard for a first league start.

There were plenty of suitors for Anderson this summer, but Howe made the decision not to send him out on loan.

The 19-year-old clearly impressed Howe in pre-season, and was handed a start in the Carabao Cup last week.

He made his first league appearance under Eddie Howe against Wolves at the weekend.

The ‘incredible’ Anderson nearly scored his first Newcastle goal minutes after coming on, hitting the crossbar with a late header.

The performance of Guimaraes’ replacement Sean Longstaff at Wolves could also hand Anderson an opportunity.

I News and the Sunderland Echo both gave Longstaff a “5/10” rating.

“Often hindered the team when on the ball” the Sunderland Echo said.

While I News said Longstaff was, “guilty of a few poor decisions”.

Young players tend to need a break from injuries or poor form to be given a first-team chance.

This looks like Anderson’s best chance at Newcastle yet to make his mark on the pitch, and he’ll be hoping Howe gives him that opportunity.
