Eberechi Eze thinks Arsenal have a player who could become the next Nuno Espirito Santo

Eberechi Eze and Arsenal will soon face Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham United side at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday after dispatching Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Martin Odegaard was excellent for Arsenal in that win, and Eberechi Eze will clearly have his work cut out to start as Mikel Arteta’s number 10.

Instead, Eze might have to settle for a spot at left wing against West Ham, who seem buoyed by their new managerial appointment.

Prior to facing Everton on Monday, West Ham sacked Graham Potter and replaced the Englishman with Nuno Espirito Santo.

And whilst Alan Shearer wasn’t happy with how West Ham sacked Potter, Nuno’s arrival already made a big difference in earning a draw against Everton.

Eberechi Eze says Arsenal teammate David Raya could become a manager

That being said, Eze has now potentially earmarked a current Arsenal player who could mirror Nuno’s path into football management.

When answering quick-fire questions with the Premier League, Eze was asked which Arsenal player would make a good manager in the future.

In the past, Arsenal players used to default to Jorginho when asked that question.

But with the Italian no longer around, Eze picked David Raya.

Eze said: “David Raya, he’s just got that personality. Would I like to play under Raya? Yeah, he’s got good ideas.”

Of course, it’s not too common for goalkeepers to go on to become managers after their playing career.

However, Nuno has done exactly that – the Portuguese manager won a Champions League medal whilst playing under Jose Mourinho at FC Porto, even if he was the club’s number two.

Interestingly, former West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui was also a manager in his playing days.

David Raya was making Ian Wright nervous only six months ago

In terms of his performances on the pitch, Raya is now in the category of elite goalkeepers across Europe.

But it wasn’t so long ago that Ian Wright confessed that Raya was making him feel a little bit nervous between the sticks.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House back in April after Arsenal had drawn with Crystal Palace, Wright said: “I thought David Raya as well. David Raya was a bit shaky.”

“I think David Raya had a little bit of a nervy vibe about him. I wasn’t as, the way I said, Dave, what’s happening? Just chill, man? What’s going on? It just made me feel a little bit jittery in how he’s playing a little bit.”

Fortunately, Raya isn’t projecting that demeanour anymore – the Spaniard is now a leader for Arteta at the back, and he gives so much confidence to the defenders ahead of him.

Raya has already starred for Arsenal this season, and it might actually be hard for Kepa Arrizabalaga to get a look in.
