Transfer expert Duncan Castles has told the Transfer Window podcast that Tottenham still have a chance of appointing Mauricio Pochettino. PSG remain desperate to keep Pochettino, and have even extended his contract. But Castles has delivered some big Tottenham manager news – that Pochettino is still pushing to leave PSG this summer.
Pochettino only joined PSG – a club he played for – in January. But the Argentine has struggled to get things going in the right direction. Winning 23 of his 34 games, Pochettino failed to stop Lille from lifting the Ligue 1 title. His side were knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals.
Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, activated a clause in Pochettino’s contract – which sees the Argentine remain until the summer of 2023. He initially signed an 18-month deal. But Castles claims Pochettino is still pushing for an exit, with the Tottenham job still vacant.
“What I’m being told is that Pochettino is continuing to put pressure on PSG, on the Qatari owners, to leave – regardless of Leonardo exercising the option which will make Pochettino more expensive. At least you have the potential that [Daniel] Levy can get the man back,” Castles said.

Tottenham must move heaven and earth to get Pochettino back
Not only do Tottenham need a new manager, not only would it be amazing to get Pochettino back – but Levy now has to appease angry fans. His managerial hunt has gone from bad to worse. Moves for Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso have all fallen through.
Spurs are back to square one. They still need a manager but they are running out of options. Nuno Espirito Santo remains a front runner. But if there is a chance of getting Pochettino back, which still looks as though there could be, then Spurs must do everything possible.
