Liverpool have almost made a pitch-perfect start to the new season.
Even the most ardent of fans are probably surprised because they expected some sort of natural hiccup when Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.
But Liverpool are flying high, they are sitting top of the Premier League table, into the next round of the EFL Cup and they have made a 100% start to their Champions League campaign.
Liverpool’s only defeat has come to Nottingham Forest, and whilst that will still sting, it is against a team that has surprisingly made a very good start to the new campaign.
The only dark cloud, if you want to call it that, hovering above Anfield is the contract situation of their three key players.
Saudi Arabia target Mohamed Salah, skipper Virgil van Dijk and Real Madrid-linked Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out-of-contract at the end of the season.
The fact that they have entered into their final 12 months should worry supporters, but the noise around some is louder than others.
Given that Alexender-Arnold is 26, then it’s understandable if other offers, such as playing for Madrid, are more appealing to him.
Given that carrot is dangling over the right-back’s head, Don Hutchison admitted that he should leave his boyhood club to wear the famous white.
The former Liverpool player feels Alexander-Arnold can’t turn down the opportunity to play for the Spanish giants and win more Champions League trophies, as he told ESPN.
Trent Alexander-Arnold told to leave Liverpool and join Real Madrid
“It has been a topic of discussion between me and pals,” said Hutchison. “I think the honest answer is, I think you have to go Real Madrid. You have to try it.
“Trent has been at Liverpool for 20 years. He has won everything there is to win in the game. Liverpool fans would be desperate for him to stay, and rightly so, because he is a great player.
“But if you are Trent and your contract is running down, you can play for Liverpool, you can win trophies and be a legend at the football club. One club man. All of that. Or you can try and go to Real Madrid. You are playing with Jude Bellingham, Vini Junior, Mbappe and all the legends that are playing there. You can put on the white shirt, test it and see if you are good enough. You can win more Champions Leagues. You can win La Ligas. There is plenty of time for Trent still to come back, so if I was in his shoes, I would go.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s friendship with Jude Bellingham
What doesn’t help matters, if you are a Liverpool fan, is Alexander-Arnold’s friendship with Jude Bellingham and how that might increase his chances of going.

The interesting thing here is that he could leave, make a name for himself in Spain, win more trophies and then finish his career at Liverpool.
At the end of the day, the all-action fullback has won everything that he could with the Reds, so that probably makes it easier for him to part ways.
