‘Documents already signed’: £11.4m Tottenham target flying in to sign for another team today – Romano

Tottenham Hotspur appear to have missed out on one of their January transfer targets.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an update on attacker Ruslan Malinovskyi.

He now believes Malinovskyi is flying to Marseille to sign for the French side.

The Ukrainian international has been regularly linked with a move to north London recently.

A report from Sport Mediaset last month suggested that Spurs were in pole position to sign the attacking midfielder.

It wasn’t long ago that Romano suggested that he would ‘love to join Tottenham’.

However, it appears as though a bid from Spurs never materialised and his future lays elsewhere.

Malinovskyi has been a fine player for Atalanta since arriving from Belgian side Genk in 2019.

He’s helped them reach the Champions League, and his 20 goal contributions in 2020/21 were extraordinary.

Malinovskyi has still featured 15 times in Serie A this season, although mainly from the bench.

His goal against AC Milan in August now looks set to be his last for Atalanta.

In a tweet, Romano described what the Ukrainian playmaker would be doing today.

“Plan confirmed for Ruslan Malinovskyi,” Romano said.

“He’s gonna travel to Marseille later this morning, as expected

“€10m deal, €3m add-ons — loan with obligation to buy so it’s a permanent move.

“Documents already signed between clubs with Atalanta.”

The £11.4m fee is reasonable for a player who has yet to turn 30 but already has over 50 international caps.

Spurs will now need to look elsewhere to secure an attacking playmaker.

One name that has been suggested in the past is Leicester City’s James Maddison.

The England international has had a fantastic season in a struggling Foxes side.

Ben Jacobs suggested that Maddison may not move this month as he’s waiting for a bid from Tottenham.

If Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes were both to leave the King Power Stadium, it would be hard to convince Maddison to stick around.

He would also provide a central, attacking spark that no one in Tottenham’s squad currently possesses.

With Malinovskyi now flying to Marseille, Antonio Conte will certainly be considering his alternatives.
