Report: ‘Fantastic’ player Tottenham want set for to jet off for pre-season unless Paratici finds £5m more

Tottenham might fancy getting a deal for Djed Spence over the line this summer but he could be off to pre-season with Middlesbrough if they’re not careful.

Negotiations have been going on for some time between Spurs and Boro but as yet, no deal has been struck as the Championship club stick to their guns. And according to The Times, that sticking to their guns means Tottenham need to come up with another £5m and quickly.

The Times states how the ‘fantastic‘ Spence will be going with Middlesbrough to Portugal for pre-season unless Spurs come up with the goods soon. That will only make things more difficult for Spurs you feel, with Spence out of the country and the deal having to be done more remotely.

The big question really for Spurs now is how much they want this deal done. There is a belief at the club that the deal will get done. However, time is ticking and the season is now just a month away. Further, Tottenham have been quick in getting their other business done, so this one dragging on is a minor worry.

The hold up here is clearly a game of cat and mouse. Chris Wilder and Steve Gibson probably know they’re going to sell Spence, but they want maximum value for the player. And rightly so, who can blame them.

For Tottenham, they are trying to get the most out of their budget so every penny counts, even though talk of around £5m difference is not a lot in Premier League money terms.

Spurs fans will be hoping this deal gets done ASAP. Spence has been linked all summer, and if it was to fall away now, then it wouldn’t be a good scenario for anyone.
