'Difficult': Jamie Carragher reacts to Sky's transfer claim about Liverpool
Jamie Carragher had told Sky Sports that it’s going to be ‘difficult’ for Liverpool to knock Manchester City off their perch if they don’t sign any more players this summer.
Sky Sports have suggested that there may not be any more signings at Liverpool before the August 31st deadline.
If that’s the case then the Reds have done their transfer business pretty early because Ibrahima Konate is their most high-profile addition.
But after Sky’s claim, Carragher suggested that he would like more fresh faces brought into Anfield, as he shared which area in particular needs bulking up.
“I think in terms of numbers it’s not a problem, I think it is in terms of quality, said Carragher. “If we didn’t bring in another addition it may be difficult to knock Man City off the top.
“And let’s not forget Chelsea, the European champions, and Manchester United, who have had a great window with (Raphael) Varane and (Jadon) Sancho.
“I’d like to see someone who could get goals, whether that’s from midfield or part of the front three.
“I am just wary a little bit with Liverpool, after last season going into this season, as to whether there are enough goals in the team for them to go and win the title.”
Truth is, other than when Liverpool went all in to bring Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker’s talents to the club, they aren’t used to splashing the cash in a wild manner like some of their rivals.
But with Manchester United, who finished above them last season, adding Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their jigsaw, then life will be more difficult.
Added with that, Manchester City are seemingly on the edge of breaking a British transfer record and Chelsea having a European Cup winning squad at their disposal.
The Reds may find that this could be a four-way battle for the Premier League title next season.
But then again, it may get hyped up to be that, only for a team to be walking away with it by the team the Christmas decorations come down.
