Tottenham Hotspur star Bryan Gil was sent out on loan to Valencia a few days ago and the young winger made his debut last night.

The 20-year-old was signed by Nuno Espirito Santo in the summer in a deal that cost Spurs £21.6 million and Erik Lamela. Gil wasn’t really expected to come in and set the league on fire, but everybody knew that his potential is humongous.

However, the Spaniard barely got any opportunities at Tottenham during the first half of the season.

Gil was handed just 86 minutes of game time in the Premier League. That is not enough for a player as talented as him, which is why Antonio Cote decided to send him out on loan to Valencia.

Tottenham loanee Bryan Gil breaks season record for Valencia on debut

Gil started on the left wing for Valencia against Cadiz in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey last night.

He had 38 touches of the ball and attempted two crosses and three long balls. He surprisingly won nine out of his 10 attempted ground duels, which is not something you really expect from a player of his physical stature.

His best stat from last night is that he completed each one of his five attempted dribbles. That’s a club record this season as no other Valencia player has completed more dribbles in a single game since the start of the season. (SofaScore)

Valencia boss praises Gil

Valencia went on to win 2-1 in what was a really tough game. Gil, unfortunately, couldn’t get on the score sheet himself, but the way he played on his debut really impressed his manager, José Bordalás.

He said, as per the club’s official website: “I liked them a lot. Bryan Gil is a difference-maker. He was very excited and played really well. He has trained very little with the team, but he was very good.”

Gil was very good indeed and his debut display is a huge positive – not just for Valencia, but for Tottenham as well.

Spurs paid a lot of money for Gil last summer and they view him as a huge player for them in the future. He needs to gain experience before he can make it in the Premier League and at Valencia, he will do just that in the next few months.
