According to a fresh report this morning, Newcastle United have a great chance of landing Diego Carlos from Sevilla due to their persistence impressing the defender.
The Chronicle reports how Carlos is said to have been taken aback by the efforts of Newcastle to bring him to St James’ Park. The Brazilian has emerged as one of the club’s key transfer targets for the month. However, Sevilla are holding on for big money, thought to be around the £40m mark.
Carlos, 28, is now thought to be heavily considering the offer from Newcastle and could end up pushing Sevilla to get the deal done. Indeed, the Chronicle claim there is a real chance the transfer now happens.

Newcastle have been linked with new players consistently over the course of the window. So far, PIF have acted to bring in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier. More new faces are expected to follow, with Carlos among the defensive targets being pursued. Others, such as Samuel Umtiti, are also being considered.
The Magpies face off against Watford this weekend in what could be a crucial clash at the foot of the table. Eddie Howe has suggested no new signings will be coming before that game. However, Chris Wood should get his debut.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Reaping Rewards Of Transfer Efforts
While there’s only two big signings confirmed so far, the fact players are now being openly tempted into joining suggests the club are pushing hard. With Diego Carlos, Newcastle would be getting a ready-made central defender to bolster the ranks.
Of course, money will play a big part. But to leave Sevilla – one of the best teams in Spain – Carlos must also think that something is brewing at Newcastle. And if he does sign on the dotted line, then others could well follow suit.
