Denis Zakaria says Liverpool wanted to sign him before he moved to Chelsea

Chelsea new-boy Denis Zakaria has claimed that he was told by his agent that Liverpool wanted to sign him before he went and joined the Blues on transfer deadline day.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were desperate to sign a new midfielder in the final few days of the summer transfer window. They were linked with a whole host of players, but it was Arthur Melo who came in on loan in the end.

However, it has now been claimed that Liverpool had their sights on another Juventus man.

Denis Zakaria says Liverpool wanted to sign him before he moved to Chelsea

Zakaria joining Chelsea from Juventus on loan was one of the biggest surprises on transfer deadline day. The move came out of nowhere, but the Blues, under their new owners, sealed the deal.

The Swiss international is happy at Stamford Bridge now, but he has come out and claimed that his agent made him aware of Liverpool’s interest before they signed Arthur.

He told Blick: “It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window.

“I packed my things and waited for the contract to be signed. I then did the medical check in Turin and it went through. It was very close.”

Speaking of Liverpool’s interest: “I heard that from my agent, but in the end it was Chelsea, and I think I’ll be happier in England than in Turin.”

Liverpool wanted a new midfielder and it looks like their eyes were on Juventus. They got one player from the Turin club in the end, but is he the right one?

A lot has been said about Arthur over the last few weeks. Some reports have claimed that he hasn’t impressed Liverpool coaches and could be sent back to Juve in January, which seemed a bit harsh as he has only been at Anfield for three weeks.

A report today, however, revealed that senior sources at Liverpool firmly believe Arthur will be a success at Anfield this season.

It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian will fare at Liverpool in the coming months. If he does well, Klopp could make his move permanent next summer, but if he doesn’t, the Reds may regret missing out on Zakaria, especially if he becomes a star at Chelsea.
