Denis Zakaria has rejected Mourinho and Roma; Tottenham must now act
Despite the emergence of Oliver Skipp, it does appear that Tottenham Hotspur really need to strengthen their midfield options in a future window.
Nuno Espirito Santo is yet to come across the perfect combination in the middle of the park.
And when Spurs are missing either Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Skipp, they look significantly weaker.
It appears to be an issue that Fabio Paratici was aware of in the summer. And one of the players he reportedly wanted to bring in to help rectify those problems was Denis Zakaria.
The Swiss has been superb for Borussia Monchengladbach over four seasons. And he was reportedly available for a cut-price figure with his contract set to expire in 2022.
Obviously, no move would take place. But Zakaria still looks destined to leave the Bundesliga side.
In fact, Sport reports that he has rejected a new contract with the club. And they are not the only team he has turned down.
Sport claims that Roma have also been snubbed by the 24-year-old.
Admittedly, the report suggests that he hopes that Barcelona make a move. But the Catalan giants continue to have problems. So there is surely an opportunity for another club to step in.
Tottenham must act as Zakaria rejects Mourinho and Roma
Zakaria is a well-rounded midfielder. He can do the defensive work, but can also drive his side forward.
On a free transfer, he would arguably be an outstanding addition to Tottenham’s ranks.
And his versatility should mean that he would be able to form a partnership with any of Nuno’s other midfielders.
With Roma reportedly being rejected, there is also an opportunity to get one over on Jose Mourinho – if Spurs make their move.
