Report: Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton eye 24-year-old midfield enforcer
Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton are all in the mix to secure the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
According to Bild, via The Sun, the Premier League trio are all preparing to pounce on a cut-price deal.
Monchengladbach are prepared to sell their midfield battering ram for a fee in the region of £17 million.
The trio are all keen to bring the player to the Premier League this summer, with Zakaria keen to end his time in Germany.
The Switzerland midfielder has played 128 times for his current club since arriving in 2017 from Young Boys.
Now, he looks like seeking a move away from the club, with Premier League clubs preparing offers.
Tottenham and Arsenal would both welcome a midfield enforcer like Zakaria.
The Gunners have Mo Elneny and Granit Xhaka, but the Swiss star would certainly provide a more long-term solution.
Tottenham’s need is perhaps more urgent. Harry Winks could be on his way out, whilst doubts remain over the future of Tanguy Ndombele.
They do have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their ranks though and he is a similar player to Zakaria.
Everton have appointed Rafa Benitez this summer and he will fancy making some reinforcements too.
The Toffees and Arsenal won’t be able to offer European football and perhaps they are behind Spurs in the race to sign the £17m-rated star.
Arsenal should move heaven and earth to sign Zakaria
The Gunners would surely relish the chance to sign Zakaria for as little as £17 million. Both Elneny and Xhaka are likely to depart in the near future and they might be wise to plan ahead now.
The 24-year-old moves the ball well and loves the art of defending from the middle of the park.
Zakaria has 34 caps for his country and featured for Switzerland at Euro 2020.
Right now he earns just £55,000-a-week and that would be well within Arsenal’s salary structure.
The midfielder could be a decent addition to the Gunners ranks and they have to beat Tottenham and Everton to his signature.
