Jose Mourinho labels Manchester City ace as one of the 'top five' players in world football
Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne is one of the best players in the world.
The Belgium international has lit up Euro 2020 with his performances in the group stages.
He came off the bench against Denmark to devastating effect, setting up and scoring a goal as he turned a 1-0 loss into a 2-1 win.
It comes off the back of a great individual season with the Citizens, where he won the PFA player of the year award. The starman made 40 appearances, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further 18 across all competitions.
The AS Roma coach claimed that he knew of the player’s talents from a young age.
When talking about de Bruyne, Mourinho said: “Kevin is an amazing player, in this moment he is one of the best players in the world, no doubt about it.”
“The quality of the player is absolutely amazing, he is in the top five in the world, and when he was supposed to leave on loan and I made the decision for him to stay, I saw those qualities.”
Kevin de Bruyne: Manchester City gain, Mourinho loss
What could’ve been for Chelsea…
De Bruyne has been a sensational addition to Manchester City in what was a huge loss to Mourinho.
The decision to let such a talented playmaker leave looks worse and worse as seasons go by.
His most recent campaign was one of his more sublime ones. The Belgian magician helped the northwest giants reach their first-ever Champions League final.
However, more so than his quality, it’s the manner in which he changes games which is impressive.
His performance in the win against the Danes less than a week ago was something sublime. Roberto Martinez’s men looked down and out, however, the 28-year-old completely change the game.
His quality of pass and finish in what was the best moments of the game ensured the Red Devils won.
Mourinho must have recurring nightmares about the decision to let the playmaker leave the west London outfit.
De Bruyne is truly one of the greatest number 10s to ever play the game. His level of performance at this moment in time probably the best player in the world.
